finally finished my transome repair!!!

Featured Replies

I finally finished my transome replacement on my 370v using Seacast. What a relief...It took a couple of weeks just because of other things going on. A very doable repair just time consuming. I am very impressed with the product thus far. I will post some pictures later tonight of the process.

You did a great job cleaning the wood off the skins.

Can't wait to see the pictures of the pour and the finished product. I've got a transom needing work this winter. Not sure on seacast or Rott Doctor.

One other question,  how did the chainsaw work out for you?

Thanks man. A chainsaw is a must! We tried to remove the wood without it with no luck. The chainsaw worked beautifully. It also does a great job getting the skins clean.

Just don't sneeze while using it. LOL

Nice job!! I am glad I found this thread. I need to do the same thing on my 87 king fisher. I had planned on separating the top section from the bottom and replace the wood that way.  I like your way much better. I have never seen this. Is there another post on this that tells more of the details? What is the seacast or rottdoctor? Thanks for any help and please post the completed pics.

Thanks

David

You don't have to use one of the aftermarket products like rott doctor or Seacast. If you're still interested, both of these websites offer step by steps on transom repairs. There are actually a couple different methods of repair using either of these products. Seacast also has a self leveling mixture for repairing stringers.

I did a ton of research and seacast was by far the best choice for my needs. I think it is much easier to just cut the top cap vs. cutting the sides/walls. Check out their web site and forum. Tons of info. A very easy process. The toughest part is getting the motor off and on. I took her out today in waves up to 3 feet. SO SOLID!!! Let me know if you have any questions.

Nice work Aaron. I know you spent a lot of time to get exactly the right result. It probably was very tempting to skimp or cut corners, especially being the end of summer break and being on such a good bite on the river. I saw the motor back on the boat and thought "very impressive, he took his time and did it right". Congratulations and have good time enjoying your new transom!!
