Shakey head weight question

Featured Replies

Something I am curious about. Let's say I but a 3/16 shakey head.  Does that weight refer to the weight of "just" the head or the total weight of the whole thing including hook?

Any 'jig' style lure - the printed weight usually just applies to the head...hook, skirt, etc are in addition. A couple manufacturers ARE putting the total weight on the label - but it's few and far between.

This applies to jigs, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, buzzbaits, etc.

It's all over the place honestly.   A 3/8oz Jackhammer is a lot lighter than a 3/8oz Chatterbait Elite.   Jigheads are no different..

I fish generally a 1/16 oz. or 1/8 oz. shakeys. Been tossing the 3/16 oz. Rugby some but still out to lunch on that one. By the time I add the worm I’m pretty close to being a 1/4 oz. The Zoom Shakey Worm is about the lightest I throw.

The two shakeys I use are 3/32 and 3/16. With a Zoom Trick Worm, the 3/32 comes in at about 9/32oz total, the 3/16 ends up about 3/8oz total.
