Scent and Elaztech

Does JJ's Magic melt Elaztech baits?

What scent can be applied that does not melt Elaztech?

Just curious and don't feel testing this out myself.  So if anyone has experience with this, please share.

Hack #6 in the article discusses using scents with ElaZtech.

Ive used spike it on Elaz without issues so I would think JJs would be ok.  Dye doesn't take to Elaztech very well, it can take a few coats to get the desired effect.  Zman claims that Elaztech will absorb oil based scents and once absorbed the bait will hold that for a long time.  I have some of there scented leeches and you can see the brown residue that was gel at one time, but either they didnt use enough or the packs I have are really old.

They suggest using Pro Cure and I agree, they have great formulas of just about anything you would need.  Pro Cure being a natural makes it really effective, but its not something you want to get on your clothes, in your boat or even on your skin.  Since there's organic material in it you don't want to store it in your boat or in a tackle bag in your vehicle where it can skunk and then it just smells worse.  I store mine in my basement and it seems to work out ok.

Megastrike works fine.

I agree

Megastrike , Gulp spray , Bang spray & Procure gel all play nice with Elaztech ... JJ's will melt Elaztech down to a science experiment in several seconds .

I have experience in this. Bobby Garland Mo Glo sauce works, Bang works, Fish sticks work. I especially like smearing a Trick Shotz ribs full of the Bobby Garland gel. It really clings in there for a long time.

Sorry I'm tardy to the party, I've just started looking into scents with elaztech baits as well after finally admitting that I can't efficiently work crappie nibs into every elaztech rig I throw.

I don't know why it's so hard to find an answer on this even here in the forums, but JJ's Magic will 100% dissolve your elaztech baits. I absolutely love JJ's, but don't use it on your elaztech baits.

I was just thinking yesterday about how to incorporate crappie nibbles into a new rig.  Thought about covering the hook point with one or mashing a few onto the hook. Have tried spray on scents and they don't last, so a longer lasting scent would be nice.

Crappie nibbles will stay on the hook bend of smaller jig heads quite well if you go that route. Punch the hook right through the middle of a nibble and slide down, then mold slightly as needed. Much easier to just not use them in the first place, though ?

My thinking is nibbles are less messy than gels and I get frustrated reapplying spray or gel every other cast so i stop adding scent. If mashing a nibble or two on the hook is quick and easy I'm going to try it! Next time I go I'll try it out and report back.

I sometimes use nibs on my EWG ned rigs and I've had good luck with molding them relatively flat against the bait; nibs are also great for exposed hook jigs of any kind/size. They perform well, but I don't think you'll find much difference with how often you have to apply the nibs from the spray when you're on the fish. I usually have to re-nib after each fish (maybe 2), but the nibs do last until you catch one almost always, so it's a big improvement while you're looking for the fish.

I've been messing with pro-cure and that new bait fuel on my elaztechs, and both seem to work well without damaging the baits (leaning toward bait fuel because it doesn't stink and it's easy to clean off my hands, but I do think the baits had slightly better absorption/coating with marinating in pro-cure); haven't been at it enough to really speak on performance, but I can tell that the pro-cure is sticking pretty well (not knowing if my bait has absorbed the scent is bait fuel's one downfall so far; can't tell if it soaked in if the scent doesn't have a noticeable smell ?).
