What is your favorite/safest/least expensive one man fishing boat?

Featured Replies

I was looking for a one man boat that I could use when I go out by myself. Something small, light weight, safe, AFFORDABLE.  I looked at all the plastic/fiberglass things, I did the inflatable thing, checked out a lot of boats.

I came to the conclusion that an old aluminum 12' vhull boat fits the bill perfectly. The vhull will get you through choppy water a bit better and the Vhull contours to a flat bottom will get you in shallow tight places easily.  VERY easy to launch/retreive. My 5hp or my 9.8hp pushes it just fine with little expense.

Found an old Alumacraft 12' from 1965 for $150. Good shape,no leaks, good wood on the transom. Pulls easily with my honda Element on a small lightweight trailer.

I would have considered a 10', but in a Vhull they are hard to find.  I might consider upgrading to a deeper, wider 12' vhull like a Lund/Sylvan/Grumman if I come across a  good deal on one.

What is your favorite one man set up?

thats the perfect boat for anything. you can strap the same stuff to that boat we strap to our bass boats, just a little smaller. lights, fish finder, small live well.

been a lot of fish caught in those boats.

Cool "fins" on the back! That must be a 50s' boat.

i paid $50 for the boat and $125 for the trailer.

My solo canoe, an Old Town "Pack" with half scraped-off duck hunting camo.

Handy and light like a kayak, but with better storage and seating position:

I picked it up at the Bass Pro outlet store for less than half of retail, it was a display model with only a few scratches.
