Featured Replies

I was thinking of buying a 16ft Jon boat with like a 9,9 motor and a trolling motor,no deck or seats.Just a plain Jon boat with a trailer. My question is will my Toyota Camry be able to handle pulling it out of the water from your typical boat ramp?Or is it gonna kill my Camry? Thanks Guys!

My buddy & I fished out of a fully rigged 15' x 44 bottom Alweld with a 25 hp which he pulled with a '95 Toyota Corolla.

It all depends on what shape your car is in.

Don't owners' manuals have towing specs?

If all else fails, talk to a dealer, or look in your manual and find out what weight it should take.

Also, how far a tow you considering to the ramp? I used to have a 1436 w/ 9 hp OB, TM, and decked it. Towed it with my truck or Dodge grand Caravan (minivan). On the trailer it was light enough, I could have hooked up a harness and launched it myself without  a car.

I don't think the the car will be the problem. If you are going to take the boat off the trailer by hand and lunch it that way you should be fine. But if the ramp is dirt or sand and have to back the trailer into the water in order to float it off you my have an issue there. I know some of what they call boat ramps leave alot to be desired in my neck of the woods. Good Luck

That's a good point for any of us. Check out your local launch(es) and see what kind of grade they have, surface type, etc. The ones near me are excellent but there I have seen some seriously poor excuses for "ramps". That should help you figure out if it will work for ya.

You are not going to have any problems at all. The boat and motor combo you are speaking of will be light enough that all you can push it off the trailer into the water once you have the bottom of the boat touching it. You could even go bigger on the motor, you won't be sorry for that if you can afford it. If you fish with a partner you could probably lift the boat and all off the trailer. Go for it!

Hell yeah..... I tow my 16' lowe with decking and an outboard with a 4x4 Geo Tracker! Not a problem, of course it's a little slow on the hills, but otherwise, no problems.

I doubt you'll have any trouble pulling an aluminum jon. I pulled a 16 foot fiberglass boat with an 84 mercury cougar for 3 years. ;)

HA! that would have been a sight!
