What gauge wire for trolling motor ?

Featured Replies

I have Minn Kota 12V 55 thrust Power Drive and need to extend the wires. My out transom motor uses 10g, but this one looks larger.

Does anyone have any idea.

I think the most common is 6 ga.

If you are running wire from the stern to the bow I would recommend 6 GA.  If the extension is only a few feet, 8 GA will be fine.

2X

They speak the truth 3x.

It may sound jakey, but I actually use green outdoor extension cord (heavy duty) 6ga. It is very good for outdoor use, looks good and it is 3 wire so you always have a spare in the jacket...... plus, it is exponentially cheaper than any wire I have used.

Perhap you can show a link to the extension cable you used.  I can't seem to google up any 6 gauge outdoor extension cables.

Hoss fly, I'm with you on 6ga wire. Need some cooperation though on where to find it. But I'm with you no worries. Let me find a store? ;D

The store is going to get hugh with me on your side.

The best supplier of GOOD marine 6 ga wire is a boat dealer. The wire they use is more flexible with thicker insulation.

The cheapest supplier would be a Lowes's or Home Depot for the stiffer/less flexible version used in building construction.

I used a set of jumper cabled took the ends off and crimped on the new ends
