So far I have fished Casitas, Cachuma, Diamond Valley, Castiac (Right and Left ramp), Castaic Lagoon, Piru.

Other lakes I want to visit:

* Pyramid Lake

* Silverwood Lake

* Elizabeth Lake

* Quail Lake

* Castac Lake

* Lake Hughes

* Perris reservoir

 

I just wonder where to go next (Love exploring on foot and on car). Love scenic lakes. Not looking for trophy fish, 2 pound bass is good enough. Just looking for my next lake that will guarantee I dont go home skunked. What are you thoughts of the lakes above? Thank you!

Its been years (probably 20+ years) since I've fished Elizabeth, Quail, and Hughes....Back then if I recalled they stocked trout into Elizabeth and Hughes...and wasn't really that worth it IMO.  Quail I think I caught my first Striper there but again not much.  I've fished Pyramid, Silverwood, and Perris from a boat...I'd say Silverwood is probably the nicest, though I've done pretty good at Pyramid on both Largemouth and Stripers.  Off the top of my head other lakes which you can add are Big Bear, Puddingstone, Skinner...as well as the large number of urban lakes like Legg, Santa Fe, Macarthur Park, Hansen, El Dorado, Echo Park, and a lot more.

 

Casitas use to by my old home lake so I've fished that place a lot...its a shame to see what the water levels are like now.  Also use to fish Piru a lot but haven't been back since the Quagga showed up.

Ill try Silverwood this weekend! I have been watching videos on youtube on bank fishing at Silverwood!

Quail lake has stripers, no bass that I am aware of.

Hughes and Elizabeth are private for residents only.

Check lake Irvine.

Puddingstone lake.

Hey WRB, 

 

I am looking at Quail Lake on Google Maps and I notice it has a water inlet/entryway and a water outlet/exitway. Do you know which one is the inlet? Is the inlet the one all the way to the far east? If it is, that is going to be a pretty far hike.

The inlet is the NE side of the lake. There is a paved road on the east end of the lake going to a cement plant that crosses over the aqueduct. You can park and walk a dirt road to the inlet about 1/4 mile. Otherwise it’s a hike around the lake perimeter road. Stripes gather at the inlet when water is running into quail lake.

Puddingstone is just big enough to have many options without wearing yourself out walking the bank. It is known to be tough fishing but what’s tough anymore in SoCal, you can cover the perimeter if your willing to jump in and out of your vehicle a couple times. Start early of be skunked .

I think Castac is likely dried up right now. Not sure about access even when it has water.

 

I know you have been to Castaic, but the bite has been pretty good for shore anglers on both the lagoon and the upper lake. 

Castac is private Tejon Ranch property.

Casitas being low pool with lots of bank available to shore anglers. You can walk to the end of Arrow Island, now a peninsula with good fishing all around.

It’s too late for this year but Lake Bassett in San Diego is the best bass fishing in so cal. It’s only open for 7 months out of the year. You have to reserve your spot through Ticketmaster. While this may seem a little odd I guarantee you will catch more fish in one day than most people catch in a lifetime. You will not be disappointed!
