It was indeed an open loop spinnerbait but haven't had issues in the past or with the old school swivels.

The TA clips are proven.  The 90 looks a bit short and the finish is dark for a TA, do you know the brand?  The knockoffs are much cheaper, but obviously the quality isn't there.  No matter how stiff that clip is if the wire your using is thin enough to slip through the gap on the 90 then it might be worth taking 30 or 40 seconds to tie a good knot.
