Ned vs Tube for Smallmouth

Featured Replies

I like both, but I really prefer that whatever I'm using has salt in it (not just on it in the package). I really feel like this gives me more time to get a proper hookset when the bite is super light. If they're fired up you can probably just use whatever and they'll smash it... but... those days seem to be few and far between.

Zman makes a small tube that basically acts like a ned rig trd.  I've used it with success on a jig head.  You get the best of both worlds.  A tube that IS a ned rig!

have not given much time to river fishing but this week spent a total of about 3 hours on the housatonic in conn. , started off with a 3.5 inch tube for about an hour and nothing then switched to ned 1/15 with a zman ticklerz and nailed 12 smallies with a 3.5 and 4 lb  ( my 2 biggest ever ) as the top 2 in that time span. just like to add that as a bank fisherman the bite can be tough but the ned rig usually gets me bit , i'm a big fan.

I actually fish a kinda modified hybrid rig that works real good on hard bottoms. I take a real deal tungsten shakey head and make the hook like a ewg with point running parallel to the plastic for easier hooksets. I cut the back half off a tornado ringed stickbait and thread it on the built in screwloc and hook weedless with hook thru rings. The tails have a rattle chamber that holds air and floats the tail up. It is very effective on the brown fish.
