Reel & Rod Switch Recommendation

Featured Replies

I have a Curado DC (8:5) on an Omen Black 7'6" Medium Heavy.  I can toss this set-up a mile, but because the rod is so stiff, I think my accuracy suffers.  I have other MH rods but this one is pretty stiff; liken to a heavy jigging rod.  So, I'd like some suggestions where I can still get the distance a 7'6" rod delivers but I'd rather have accuracy with this reel.  What rods do you recommend to pair w/ this reel?

Also, can you give me some recommendations for a reel to place on this rod?  I already have heavy jigging and frog rods, so if there is any other set-ups that will be best served by a heavy rod, please shoot me your thoughts.  Gear ration as well please?

My current set-ups: punch, jig, frog, hard jerk, soft jerk, "heavy" finesse, spinner, (2) soft bait set-ups (plastics) and a crank bait r&r.

I'd like the replacements about $100 each.

I'm a little confused.  8.5 ratio on a 7'6" heavy jig rod seems ideal to me.  Accuracy is more about the rod in my opinion.  Have you tried a heavier jig on it yet? 5/8 or 3/4oz?  Maybe your accuracy is hindered by the rod not loading properly.

Maybe sell the rod, add $50-100 and get a Daiwa Tatula 7'1 MH or H and your jig rod will be more accurate and possibly more sensitive.

Or hang on to that rod and get a 6 or 7 gear ratio reel for larger weedless swimbaits, ie magdraft freestyle, 6.8 keitech, on owner beast hooks.  Seems like that rod would do really well with this as well and maybe the accuracy wouldn't be as important since its a chuck and wind type thing.

a longer rod, for me, will give me better casting distance at the cost of accuracy.  im not too tall (5'10"), so a 7'4" rod is as tall as I'm willing to go.  my preferred length is a 7'2" rod, it still casts long distances and it's my perfect length for accuracy.  a softer tip can also help with accuracy.

X2 @softwateronly, a swimbait reel seems like a good bet.

also, "heavy" finesse?  sounds like an oxymoron ?
