Animated knots, and some fluoro info

This just showed up in my inbox today. It covers a bunch of stuff we've discussed at length here about fluorocarbon, sensitivity, knots, etc., but they (Sunline) has also created their own animated "how to tie" videos of a whole bunch of knots we have also all mentioned. The videos can be found at their website under 'knots.' Interesting to see how they diagram and tie/finish certain knots. All the popular ones are there.

Check out their website and see what you think: Animated knots

Hopefully this is all acceptable for posting by moderators. Apologies, and edit/remove if not.

Here is a brief excerpt from the write-up I was sent which I also found interesting:

"Anglers choose fluorocarbon for the improved sensitivity it provides. That improved sensitivity comes from the fact that fluorocarbon is a harder material than the nylon lines used for years and that hardness allows it to better transfer feeling to the rod. Much the same way anglers choose tungsten weights now instead of lead weights for improved sensitivity. The improved sensitivity comes from the tungsten being a harder material and better transferring the bites or bottom contact up the line to an angler. That same hardness can also cause fluorocarbon to quickly cut itself much faster than a nylon line. If an angler ties a knot with fluorocarbon where the fluorocarbon crosses itself, that crossing can cause the line to break very easily at that spot as the fluorocarbon cuts itself. The graphic below shows an example of a Palomar knot that was tied incorrectly, and the fluorocarbon is crossed. Failure will happen at that location with a strong hook set."

Had to go look at this since it is my favorite flouro knot. If this video is correct I have no idea what I have been tying, as the doubled end never goes through the top loop in this video.

*Any FC line knot where the line crosses over itself (i.e. incorrectly tied Palomar knot) is asking for trouble as that knot to cut into itself and fail ... Best advice to know regarding FC line and knots .

Same here. Whatever this knot is it’s not a SD jam

The knot in the video is called a double hang mans knot.  If the doubled tag continued on up going  through the top loop it is a San Diego Jam knot.  If you take the doubled tag, and go through the bottom loop then go back up through all the coils it is a doubled nail knot, Doubled nail knot is a great floro knot, but difficult to tie without a  nail knot tool or hollow tube.  All three are good knots even if line is not doubled.
