I posted a poll in one of the Shimano Facebook pages asking what most folks preferred as a jig rod reel. Overwhelmingly the answer was the bantam MGL ( I thought the 20 Metanium MGL would run away with it).

For those of you that have fished both the Bantam MGL and 20 Metanium MGL, which do you feel is best suited for a jig rod and why ( in my case the Dobyns DX745).

Metanium is no doubt a great reel, but I'm also in the Bantam camp for a jig rod (894 for me). Just feels solid and balances a little better with that rod IMO. That said, if you put a Met on that Dobyns you'll be thrilled with the performance.

Did you ask in the poll to not consider purchase price in your answer?

I own both, the Bantam is an awesome reel and the 20 Met is just as good (or better) but for jigs, the Bantam just feels so solid and smooth they are hard to beat.

I have both and the bantam is on the frog/heavy slop rod and the Met is for jigs.  For me the Met feels better on everything with the exception of heavy rods
