I am debating whether it would be better to go w/the 5 in unit that has the maps for 350 or the 7 in in the basic x model for 400. Using lowrance rebate. They are both going to end up being 300. Is the ss inland that much better than the x model? If not, based on budget constraints i may just end up with the 5x

Depends on whether or not you need maps. Can't answer that for you. 

I eeally dont need maps, but ive read where the x models arent as powerful or dont work as well.

They're the exact same unit, with the exception of mapping capabilities.

 

And you can still use Genesis Live with the x model, too
