Replacing Jitterbug Trebels

Featured Replies

a few weeks ago, when i was loading up my jon boat in the truck, my jitterbug was hanging over the edge of the boat when i pushed it into the bed of the truck. well when i got home i saw that the hook that whey weld onto the double hook to make it a trebel just split clean off, all the way up the weld. since jitterbugs dont have split rings, they have screw eyes w/ those cups around them...how do i replace the trebel?

Do not remove the hook hanger you will create a larger hole by unscrewing it out and rescrewing it in, later it will come off exactly when you have a fish on. Puchase good quality hooks ( Owner cutting edge ) of the same size and some split rings, cut the original hook and remove it, insert your split rings and insert your hooks. Add a drop of super glue to the hook hanger where it enters the body so it would never fall off.

I have removed and discarded the hook hangers and added screw eyes to which split rings get attached. Even if the weld on that hook hadn't broken, you would have wanted to replace the hooks anyways, since Jitterbug hooks are among the worst I've seen.

o....well i replaced it before this got any responses and i just unscrewd the hook hanger, took the cup off, opened the hook hanger (more difficult to do than i thought ::o) and just slid a new hook on and re assembled it. oh well ::) if it comes out i wont mind it because the lip got all mangled up (just found that out today) in the incident too...so i wont mind getting a new jitterbug.

Yes, the hooks on most Heddon lures suck! I do it exactly like Raul described.
