I use to be really into bass fishing but haven't really fished in the past 5 years due to my ex throwing out all of my gear. This spring I've started collecting gear, new boat tackle and recently order a st croix avid x med/heavy fast action rod and need some advice on a good reel to pair with under $200 first nice rod, I've always ran ugly sticks in the past

   Shimano Curado 200 K would work out, but your personal likes and dislikes are going to mean something, too. The Shimano is centrifugal braking. Daiwa reels are generally magnetic braking, if you happen to like that.       jj

Have a Curado K on mine and it balances perfectly. 

I deffenatly like my grandfather's Shimano slx 150, how dose the curado compare?

the new mgl reels are a lot nicer than the k and the slx 150  i have the slx mgl  and the scorpion 150 mgl.  both can cast weightless flukes and heavier jigs

   The Curado 200 is slightly larger, holds more line, and feels heavier ...... but not by much. I tend to use reels with larger capacity because I tend to use larger diameter lines. I like 14 mil line minimum, so the capacity of the 200 is about right for me. I fish places with wiper, pike, and musky.

   A lot depends on your next purchase; in other words, where are you going from here? Some people would go down in power, so that the MH/F was their "big guns". For that, I'd definitely take the 200. Other people (like me) would buy heavier next, going the H/M or H/F rod route. If you do that, you can take a lot of the upper-weight load off your MH/F rod, and therefore use a lighter line and smaller reel.
