Anybody With Info on the Quantum Throttle

Featured Replies

Thinking they are a low cost spinning reel but it fits my needs for spool size - gear ratio - and weight. Saw them talking about them on ICast. Won't be released till Oct some time. Maybe just some general feedback on quantum reels in general.  Thanks Dave

Buy a shimano nexave. Quality control with quantum is poor. I would avoid.

Perhaps that's true, but somehow I've managed to dodge the bullet with the 6 recent production Quantum BCs I own. They've been flawless, and they get fished hard.

I never commented further on the throttle because after seeing it on TW I read a review on the web and realized they have a disengaging anti reverse on them. Not a feature I would want or tolerate, looked at two Daiwa reels the exceler and legalis and decided to go with the pfleuger president xt. Bought two of them and they have impressed me and hope they continue to. Thank you both for information.   Dave

I could not disagree more. I’ve been using nothing but Quantum spinning reels for 30 years and have never had an issue relating in any way to their quality control. I’ve currently got 7 of them that I would use today and some of those are 15 years old. The reason I keep buying the new models is because I’ve had such good luck with zero issues.
BTW, I’m not vouching for any of the $30 reels, I’ve been using the higher end stuff all along

My limited experience with Quantum has not been fantastic. They have went back except for one old series BC that is an Iron Series.

I Bought my grandson a Nexave that is on a Bass X Rod.  Great set up. I fished it a few times with soft plastics. Decent reel for the price. Reel availability made me buy it. Others at the time were tough to get.

I have a quantum spinning reel I’ve owned for many years and it’s worked fine. But I was recently let down when I bought a few quantum smokes pt 30 spinning and therre just was multiple things wrong with them. One of them didn’t turn smoothly the other one had a loose rotor. For what they charge it’s just unacceptable. He’s asking about the quantum throttle it’s a $40 real just go by the Shinano nexavr for 50 bucks, just better quality.

You just have to check the reels out first and make sure there ok. When you’re purchasing through mail you don’t have that option. I do like quantum but shimano has so many good offerings it’s not much of a comparison. The new nasci are $100 there’s nothing that’ll compete with that reel at $100, Something Daiwa perhaps.

It’s a $40 reel. I wouldn’t have high expectations for it.

OK dropshot lets actually price things as they really are, I appreciate your feedback but the throttle I mentioned is new and redesigned and does not sell for $40. just released at ICast and TW has it for $60. If you noticed I rejected it and moved on over the anti reverse. Next I looked at a legalis and exceler from Daiwa and rejected both for being on backorder. They were $70 and $80 respectively but summer too short to sit and wait on a reel. I went with 2 president xt reels $90 at TW but both very nice reels, smooth with a very nice drag. Now any of those prices would drop 15% if I waited till fall or winter, but again that waiting thing.....open water is pretty much over after Sept. 30 so I'm on a boat fishing shot clock. Am I happy YES and in an hour will be on the water using them. Thanks for everyones feedback watch that line on the fall.    Dave

I agree with you 100% on the Nasci. I’ve been buying they since the Symetre had stopped. My grandsons and I are fishing 1000, 2500 and 3000 versions.

They’re nice For $100 I can justify the ounce and a half of weight compared to a tatula. When I’m saving a couple hundred dollars on my purchase and essentially its going to do the same thing. You just know with Shimano you’re going to get something quality. The tolerances are more consistent.

I think that will make too many rails in that lower price category. The Exceller all those reels they’re basically the same thing. Then they jump up almost $100 to the Tatula. But they’re all going to do what they’re supposed to do just depends what you wanna pay. I hear you enjoy
