Taking on water-- but from where?

Featured Replies

I own a 1991 ProCraft 180 Stalker bass boat, which has just recently (the last two trips to the lake) begun to take on water inside the hull while on the lake.

There are no holes in the hull, and neither rain nor wash over the bow/stern/gunnels has occurred which would explain it.

My current thinking is that the hoses which run to the livewells have dry-rotted and are leaking water into the hull, under the deck.

Short of removing the batteries and gas tank, is there a good way to access the livewell connections under the rear deck?  Can anyone tell me whether the aft dry-storage bins are easily removable, which might allow me access?

What about the front livewell? I can't figure out how to get under the front deck to check out the connections there-

Any assistance would be appreciated-

Thanks

What fills your livewells? :(

Are you thinking that it's the pumps themselves that are leaking?

I had not considered that, but I suppose residual water inside of the pump could have frozen and cracked the unit itself.

If you are thinking differently, I'd appreciate hearing it-

Thanks

Take out what ever you have to in order to be able to get a good look at your hoses and pumps.  But before you do that check the fittings where the hoses go out of the boat.  It could be a silicone failure  and water coming in around the hose fitting at the transom or side.

I think I can solve your problem. Jig man is correct. I also own a Procraft 3 years older than yours and had water leaking into the boat. It was the hose fittings. Actually even had one COMPLETELY pop off in the middle of the lake. And we weren't even moving. Almost sank the boat. I got a hold of the best marine silicone possible and re-sealed 'em. The are fine now.

Might just be a ProCraft problem.
