J Francho, have you had poor results with Ardent lubes?.And a second question, have you tried any of the Lucas products?

Reel butter turns brown.  Hot Sauce does too, and leaves brown stains on everything.  Several others that used to swear by all eventually see the same thing, including @.ghoti. who used argue with me on the phone about it, lol..  The stuff is garbage.  I don't know anything about Lucas products, never tried them.

Maybe it is a regional climate thing.  I only re-grease my reels yearly.  Reel butter stays yellow here in MO.

Gary (.ghoti.) isn't too far from there.  He used it for years without issue, until he he did.  Most of my customers' reels that came back the next year had it happen.  I used it per their request at the time.

Okay, I got my oil, grease, and bearing lube.  What I forgot to get is a cleaner.  Would isopropyl alcohol work as a cleaning agent?  Or, must I get a specialized cleaner for fishing reels?

Yes, but I think acetone does a better job.  Have plenty of air circulation if you choose  acetone.
