I'm just getting back into the sport, from when all we used was mono. I have one reel, Lew's LFS Speed Spool, that is straight FC. Everything else I own is mono with an FC leader or straight braid. I love how well I feel the bite and how well braid casts and doesn't backlash. I love FC for its invisibility. I hate working with FC though. Once I run out of FC, i'll likely just run mono leaders.

Modern FC in my opinion has better castability, manages better than any mono or copoly, has more abrasion resistance, and is generally much higher and better quality... But, I've found it does kind of depend. I've never been let down by red label, invisx, or abrasx.

I also use braid to FC on baitcasters more often now.

Braid does not destroy line guides. The old Spiderwire did, but the stuff we have now doesn't. Noise depends on the line. 4 carrier braids aren't wound as tightly, so they tend to be noisier. A qualit

Braid in really cold conditions is a nightmare. When I'm fishing in the winter and the temps drop near or below freezing, I have to go to mono or fluoro because the braid freezes midcast. Like trying

Yeah but  braid to floro doesn't knot as well as braid to mono not saying you can't do it but mono knots and grips better to braid imo than floro

Been using braid for about 7 years and have yet to damage a rod with it. I understand straight fluoro though. I just don't care for it. If the water ever got gin clear here, I'd use it. I rarely even use it for a leader. It was simpler for me to go to braid on every combo except my spinnerbait/buzzbait rod. I use straight braid for jigs and frogs. I use a short mono leader for treble baits. I started this after fishing with a FL guide who used braid for everything. 20LB on shinning, 30# for jigs/T-rigs and 50-65 for the frogs. Cool thing about braid is, when one end gets old you can simply reel it onto another reel and you'll be using the new end.

For what its worth and it isn't worth much.

I was fishing a "swimming pool" clear large pond from the bank.  I could see 20 feet out and 10 feet down into the water...it's ridiculously clear.  I could see the bass and could not get them to bite on 2 or 3 trips to the pond (cannot remember).  I switched from straight braid to braid/floro leader for the heck of it and immediately started catching fish.  Now was it the switch, the moon, the weather, the gasoline smell on my hands, were the fish just hungry that day?  who knows...but I have used a leader on everything except topwater from that day forward.

Also, I suck at knots but for 2-3 years I have never lost of a fish due to the connecting knot.
