    Shimano, all the replies are good and I want to add one more: Birds! Watch out for birds!

     

    Once the birds (and turtles/snakes) know you have crawfish traps set they will attack the traps to get to the mudbugs.

     

    Make sure it is legal to shoot the birds if they get too aggressive. And of course, it goes without saying to check the traps carefully when you pull them to see if you have any underwater visitors who will not share the excitement you enjoy when pulling the traps.
