Toads

Featured Replies

The Bait Monkey has been beatin' me on the head to try one of the Toads. I was at BPS yesterday and bought a pack of Stanley Ribbits. When I got home I noticed on the back of the package it read "the bead in the bag improves the performanceof the ribbit. Rig it in-line above the nose of the frog. If you lose the bead, any glass bead from a Carolina rig will do." Someone had already "lost" the bead in my bag. Anyone of you fellas use the bead with ribbits and if so how does it affect the bait...

The bead is to help keep the grass and other stuff from snagging onto the nose of the bait and helps keep the nose of the bait from tearing up as quickly.

Ribbits are the only frog I use & I never seen this before but I'll check it out tomorrow at work.  :o

I use a bead everytime on a toad,  It helps keep the trash from building up on it. I have found a new toad that is better than any of the others, and believe me I have tried them all. Check  them out at  152ndstreetbaits.com and look at the toadsters.

The bead in my opinion helps in 3 ways. It protects the knot from abrasion,It helps keep moss and other aquatic veggies from gathering on it and it also keeps it from getting hung on hard limbs. The other thing I do is add about 8" of light soldering wire to the shank of the Stanley 5/0 hook wrapped around and around the shank. It acts as a keel to keep the hook pointed up during retreive where it should be. Good luck,Crowcommander

Thanks so much for your help :o!! I looked at the different toads that BPS sold and liked the ribbits, I thought the feet would make more commotion in the water. I'll just try a plastic bead that I use as a float stopper in bream fishing...

I check at work and aint none of them got no bead

If you rig it Texas isn't the hook & knot buried in the frog?

If the Ribbit is upside down while retrieving it's because you reeling to fast, pause and it turn right side up.

Thanks for looking Catt. I thought maybe someone put the "5 finger discount" on the pack I picked up. Is the Ribbit a pretty much straight retrieve or is it one of those that you let the fish tell you what they want?

I don't even see it mentioned on the pack about a bead  :o

I buzz em on top, straight reel it just under the surface, & some time I work it on the bottom
