Any Poison Adrena owners here?

Featured Replies

I am looking for any of you guys that own or have used the 7' 6" XH reg fast Poison Adrena. What do you use it for? Can it handle flipping duties? I need a flipping stick for moderate cover when it's not quite heavy enough to pull the 8-ft punching rod out. What's this one labeled as being for on the handle?

For example my 73mh is labeled versatile and my 72h is labeled power versatile. How soft is the tip, being that it is labeled regular fast? I have not been able to find any info or anybody that has one of these. Thanks all

Do you own this rod?

Nope, not yet... That's why I'm looking for info on it before I drop that much coin on one. But I've had no luck anywhere I've asked.

I have 2 PA casting rods and 1 PA spinning rod.  All are BFS or ML/F.  They tend to fish slightly heavier (action-wise) than their nominal ratings but they are awesome rods and are very light.  The build quality is excellent and some come with stylish nylon rod socks.

That's interesting because the heavier models like I have tend to fish lower in power than rated. For example my 72H/F to me is a true, traditional medium heavy fast action.

Your experience is more relevant than mine to the original query, since I’m at the opposite end of the light/heavy action spectrum. I imagine that the build quality remains excellent across the range.

Consider the 7'3xh if you want a flipping stick capable of punching without bringing out an 8 footer

As far as I know they do not make a 73xh in the poison adrenal lineup? I use a 73xh Expride as my frog rod. I don't flip or pitch with anything under a 7' 6" here in the FL cover.

BTW, just did a quick check and all my PAs were made in China.  So there's that info if it matters to you.  I wasn't aware of that when I purchased them and it probably wouldn't have toggled my ultimate purchase decision but it would have been a negative decision variable.

I was meaning the expride. What's wrong with the 7'3 in the Florida cover?

I would rather it not be made in China for the price but it is what it is ya know. It's an amazing rod regardless. I'm very picky with my gear and I have no complaints about this one.

Nothing, as I said above I use that rod for frogging and Big EZs. But flipping cover is another animal. I like to have the most leverage I can because I'm usually fishing visible emergent cover with thick, non visible hydrilla or other grass mixed underneath! And.... The 73XH is way too stiff for flipping/punching heavy cover for my liking. I like more of a moderate action for that. I will usually have at least 3 different flip, pitch and punch setups ready to go.

Well I finally decided to pull the trigger on this rod and I have mixed feelings about it from my initial impressions. It weighs 4.9oz on the dot and balances a couple inches above the lock not with a 2020 Metanium spooled with 50lb braid. I'm kinda disappointed in this thing honestly. It's in no way shape or form an extra heavy like it's rating says. To me it feels like a longer version of the 7' 2" heavy model. Somewhere in between a heavy and a medium heavy/fast. I was thinking it would be a hardcore flipping stick/bigger owner beast hook swimbait rod.

The handle is labeled as power versatile also just like the 72H model. To me most of the Adrenas feel overrated in their power but they do have very crisp fast actions.

Another reason to call the factory and talk to knowledgeable personnel. I know that some factory people don't know diddly, and will snow you, but many are very good with practical advice. You won't be out any money, so why not give it a try and mix it in with the advice you get from regular fishermen on forums like this?

That was the first thing I did actually, twice! One time I was told by a very unfriendly young sounding representative that it was an Alabama rig rod. The second time a slightly friendlier person informed me it was a flipping/punching stick.

It won't go to waste at all though. I'm sure I'll find plenty of uses for it.
