What's The Smallest Battery That My 30lb Thrust Trolling Motor Can Work With? Having a jon boat, I'm trying to maximize the space and weight. Funny, I think my current battery is about 1/2 the weight of my rig.  :

I think the smallest deep cycle battery you can get is a Group 24.

Yep, I'd go with a group 24.  That's what I had in my previous Bass Raider running a TM & depthfinder.

12 V pull more anps than any other motor.  If a 27 will fit then use one of them with the most reserve amps you can get.

I have a jon boat that I use both a 24 for local lakes and small canals and a 27 series for excursions into the everglades.  I have used my 24 all day without problems pushing 36lbs of thrust, so I would go with lighter battery.

I've been kicking around the G24 vs G27 size selection for a while now. I'm putting it in a canoe and a 24 can be as much as 10 pounds lighter than the 27, making it easier get the battery in and out of the boat - not to mention weight and balance considerations. I think the 24 has enough reserve capacity to suit my needs (the TM doesn't need to draw a lot of power to push a canoe around) so I will probably go with the 24.
