Can megabass whipsnake double as trout rod?

Featured Replies

I already own a Megabass Whipsnake I use for finesse bass fishing but was wondering if it could double as a trout rod in the fall? My local lake stocks trout in fall and would be great not to have to buy another rod.

how do you like the whipsnake for ned rigs.obviously you need a lighter rod for light baits but ive has some that were too light and couldnt keep fish pinned.is the tip really light? does it stiffen up pretty quick etc?

It’s a light power, extra fast action rod. That’s plenty good to throw spoons, spinners, hair jigs, and powerbait. You might have trouble throwing small plastics like trout magnets, but if you go up to a 1/32oz head instead of a traditional 1/64oz you could make it work

So it’s interesting you say that because I actually had the same Issue. Tip was so soft it was hard to set hook or keep fish pinned. I snapped off 2 inches, fixed it, and it actually keeps them pinned better. I got an orichi xx coming in now since I broke it. I think it’s supposed to be a little more crisp than the levante. Was yours the levante?

I plan to use it to throw 1/16-1/8 kastmaster/phoebe spoons off bank for trout and possibly fish power bait on a slip sinker as well. Don’t plan to go down that low in weight.

no mine was a stcroix avid 610 med lite.i use a st croix legend tournament 610 mlxf  now and it keeps fish pinned really well but its a little stiff for casting the 1/16 ned rigs i prefer. it does the job but id like something slightly softer. im going to look at a orochi xx shakey head tomorrow and see how it feels, tey sold the only whipsnake they had.

I have the Orochi XXX Slend which has very similar specs. Yes, it will absolutely work
