Tackle Bag - Horizontal Storage - 'Drawer Like' - Suggestions?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I use a tackle bag because I go on friends boats a lot, etc.

This is what I currently have:

https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-deluxe-fisherman-series-tackle-bag

The current bag I have allows me to insert my plano boxes in vertically, from the top of the bag.

The issue with this is some of my soft baits get kinked sideways and bent in the wrong way.

Thus, I want a bag that has a front loading compartment, so I can put my plano boxes in 'flat' (horizontal).

It looks like a bag like this would work:

It seems like a lot of backpacks use the flat storage, but they are also more limited in storage.  This is for a boat, so I don't need a 'backpack' setup.

Do you have any other favorites? It seems 90% of bags allow boxes to be loaded vertically.

Looking for recommendations!

I have used all sizes of the cabelas advanced angler bags, now BPS something since the buyout, and instead of putting the boxes in their vertically I set them flat. The downside is you need to pull all out to get  at the bottom ones. In the 3700 bag there is room to standup one box and I just make sure it is crankbaits or something other than plastics. It holds enough it can get heavy fast.

A long time ago I had a flambeau soft sided front load that had a compartment above the box and it would start to collapse if you took one or two boxes out of the bottom. So for me dealing with taking all out has been les of a hassle.

Other option is they do make some hard boxes that have removable boxes instead of drawers now that might fit what you are looking for.

I agree with you.  I hated when my boxes had to be vertical.  A few years ago I bought this bag

It has worked out really well.  I bring when I fish out of buddies boats.  I often bring it in my boat when fishing alone as well.  It has held up pretty well, but has gotten expensive.  I bought it for $90 cheaper then.  There are others like it now.  I just haven’t used them.   Good luck in your search.  I will be doing the same thing when this one dies.  I would probably not pay what they are asking for this one now.

I had a bag like that but kept laying it on its side to get things out...so I changed to the vertical.  As for the softbaits, keep them in their bags and put the bags in a plano without dividers and your problem will go away.

Loving all the suggestions. The one scenario I'm thinking of is when I rig a leadhead onto a keitech swimbait. I wouldn't be able to put that back into the keitech plastic. Maybe getting a small bait bag would do the trick.

Good idea, just lay them in flat. Would work in the interim for sure!

Do you have any examples from TW about the hard boxes that have removable boxes instead of drawers?
