Do any fishfinders see through the weeds?

Featured Replies

I have a FISH EASY finder. If i'm in 8' of water and the weeds are 6' deep, my finder reads only 2'.

Are there finders that read all the way to bottom of the weeds with pockets where they're hiding?

If you can adjust the "gain" or "sensitivity" you should be able to turn them down. By doing that, you can filter out the grass return from the display, or reduce it to an acceptable level.  That might solve your problem.

If you set them up correctly for each condition, they will not only see through it they will show you each strand of grass as it grows from the bottom.

At least my lowrance units will.

I would like to see that setup for my eagle 642

I'll try and get you a picture tomorrow with my eagle shooting through some weeds.  Key word...try.

Here you are, LunkerLust. Be forewarned, the battery I was using was pretty much dead. I'm sure that effected sonar performance some.  The transducer also isn't perfectly leveled on the transom as this was put on temporarily until I find a new rig.

The yellow band would be the bottom. The junk on top is part of a big chunk of hydrilla.

More hydrilla in a different chart color scheme

that first pic of the hrdrilla could be a rock , that is the trouble with 2d sonar

a. You can tell from the sonar return that thats not a solid object. A strong return would be yellow on that graph. The only reason it starts to color a little is because of the ridiculously thick weeds in that area.

b. I can swim fairly well, and have looked at lots of the areas behind the house while snorkeling.

c. I can pee on the spot from my backyard.
