Kids and Jon boat

Featured Replies

I have twin 5 yr olds who love to go fishing with me. I want to get a Jon boat as that is all that I can afford at this time. Is it a bad idea to take them both out at once as I can't take one without the other as I have them together on my days. They are well behaved and listen and they of course would be wearing life jackets.

What size boat, as long as they have life jackets and don't fall over it should be ok. My daughter never went fishing with me until i got my first bass boat. When i had a 12ft jon she was scared of how it rocked, LOL!

Thinking of the 14' Jon boat. Paying child support to 2 ex wives I won't be seeing a bass boat for a long time.

that should be ok, Ive fished 3 grown men in a 12 footer before, just gotta be careful when casting,  try to limit the moving around and stuff like that, but it will work if it has to.

A 1448 Lowes semi-v is what you should be looking for. Nothing smaller since you've got two small children.

I have a tracker 14' x32" and it's very wobbly (even when I'm in it alone). I won't stand in it. If you do buy a Jon boat, Try to get the widest one available.

i agree. i have a 14ft semi v also. very stable boat. two fat guys can stand and fish. the boat wont flip over cause if you lean far enough you would fall in before the boat went over.

Width is a big factor. Get the widest jon you can afford or better yet get a wife deep sided vee. The kids would be safer.

I have friends who went with 10 & 12 jons. They were not stable. I have a 14' jon and it is OK but I only use it on ponds and the Susquehanna. I would not use it on big water.
