Vision 110 Hook Options

Featured Replies

Hey Guys,

Jerkbaits have been killer for me this season so far, but seems every trip I’m bending hooks back. Now I have to decide between stock replacement hooks(which i like and have great hookup for me just dont have confidence in them after bending them back in a few times) or upgrades.

Tacticalbassin recommends size 5 gamakatsu g-finesse hooks for them to remain as a suspending bait, but evidently these are backordered until march everywhere. Not sure how a size 4 or 6 would impact the buoyancy.

What hooks are you guys using on vision 110 full size to get a suspend or ultra slow sink/float?

@JZpowered I find sometimes a #5 nano g finesse on the front 2 hooks plus a #6 on the back can get a particular 110 to suspend perfectly for me in cold water. If I want an ultra slow sink, and that configuration doesn't do it, I'm usually wrapping a little lead wire around the middle hook. I'll use #5s on all 3 hooks and depending on the produced bait and water temp, this can result in perfect suspension, ultra slow sink or slighter faster slow sink. For me personally, in faster paced warmer months, when pauses are 1 second > almost no pause........... in the structures I'm fishing, I just throw on 3 - #5 nanos and start fishing.

I've also messed with the owner stx 38, but not as much. From my experience they seem just a hair heavier than gammy nanos. I've had some baits with 2 # 5s and a 6 on the back work perfectly for whatever pause action I was looking for. I've had some 110s work well with front # 5 and 2 - #6s on the back hooks......then adding a little lead to get the desired result.

I've played with Daichi's. Too light for what I was looking for.

I've also played with gammy round bends & owner st-36s with desired results............but it's been a while and I do not remember what worked for me personally.

Probably not much help considering what's in stock. If I personally needed to find a hook other than the g-finesse nano, I would go back to tinkering with the gammy round bends.

Vision 110 Treble hooks – I change them; as well as every other jerkbait I throw.

#4 Mustad KVD 1x Strong 2x Short Triple Grip Treble Hook, #4 Gamakatsu EWG Treble Short Shank Magic Eye or #4 Owner Short Shank Treble Hook ST-35 all adorn my baits.  Especially like that Owner ST-35 (Not for a tail hook though) as it features 150-degree Premium Point Position design, which splits two hook points out 150-degrees versus the typical 120-degrees between all three points. This allows the hook points to be positioned slightly farther out from your bait and help increase your hook up percentage. Opening the gap to 150-degrees also minimizes damage to your bait from the hook points, while keeping the hook points sharper over time as well.

Note: Owner Stinger ST-35 Short Shank Treble Hooks are designed to be used with baits that have the hook hanger in line with the length of the bait.  These will not hang correctly on lures that feature any hook hanger that is perpendicular to the length of the lure – some of the offerings from Megabass for instance.  Had to include that because as great as these trebles are – they do not work in the situation described.

Any & all questionable split rings are traded out for Owner Hyper wires. (including Line ties)

The Duo trebles in #6 would sub for the G finesse #5s pretty well.  The gaps are about the same size, if there is a difference its not more then a mm or so.  The bends are very similar as well.  The gami has a longer point with a really small barb and the Duo has a shorter point with a much bigger barb.  The Duo has a thicker wire then the G finesse and MB outbarb hooks, but they're still really light.  I don't think my scale will be accurate enough to be able to measure the difference in weight between the 2, but I could try if you want me too.

As far as being sharp the Duos are are great.  IMO Duo has the best stock hook on the market.
