Wondering if I’m taking the best approach with my gear/line choices. Currently using 3 rods for bassing, since I have fly/surf rods and don’t have space/money for more. I’m open to hear some advice!

 

1) 7’ MH Fast Spinning rod 

Daiwa BG 3000 with 15# braid     Inshore stripers, topwater bass

 

2) Dobyn’s Fury FR 703 SF

Still needs a reel, will probably load with fluoro for drop shotting,wacky rigging, etc?

 

3) Dobyns 704C                                Daiwa Fuego CT 8.1:1 with 12# mono Texas rigs, jigs, jerkbaits, crankbaits etc…

 

I’d like to have more choices for specific applications, but I’m not there yet. My competencies lay more in fly fishing and surfcasting, where I have spent most of my energy & resources. Until we move out of New England, this is the gear I have.

I personally find braid to be more versatile than mono or fluoro and will enhance sensitivity and hookset power, it's like upgrading your gear. You can do a lot with what you already have.

 

 

I'm not sure what you are asking seaweed. What you have will work. Depending on what and where you will fish, you may want to add other outfits, or not.

Could my line choices be better? 

1) Youre probably good with the 15lb braid. Personally I'd go up to 30. Gives me the option to get into nastier places. Id use this rod for soft plastics as well. 

 

2)  Is this a MH rod?? I reccomend a fast reel. 7:1 gearing at least with ~12-15Lb fluro line. I'd use it for spinnerbaits swimming jigs lighter swim baits, lipless cranks. 

 

3) This is a Heavy rod? Maybe something you could use for big swim baits, dont have a specific reel reccomendation....something with a 6-7: gear ratio?

 

Not to make you feel like you need to biy more stuff....buuuut....?

 

Something for cranks baits. I dont fish them much and not really sure whats best. My reccomendation is to check out the bass resource articles!

I’ve been going through a lot of Glenn’s videos on YouTube, putting together a chart of gear recommendations for every bait. I’m coming from the fly fishing/spin fishing world so I have a lot to learn. Im not used to the plethora of options bassing has. Thanks for the helpful reply!

Came across one of the BR videos on YouTube that seems to help clarify rod selection, thought it would be helpful to newbies if they come across this thread down the road.

Thanks all for the replies, turns out the 703SF is kind of redundant, so I will be swapping that out for something lighter. I've actually had a lot of success dusting off my JDM ultralight rod that I had posted for sale on craigslist, so something a bit heavier would be a happy medium between the two. Thanks again to everyone for the helpful replies!
