Portable Fish/Depth finder for bank bound anglers?

Featured Replies

Hey all, I'm looking for some kind of a depth finder I could use from the shore. I don't have any hopes of a boat soon (sigh), and I've been looking at some that have a little floating transducer with about a 100 foot range, and 100ft depth capacity. Do any of you know of anything similar to this that might help my plight?

Can't help you much, but I once had a HB depth finder that mounted onto a fishing rod with the transducer on the end of the line.  Used it a few times and sold it.  Found it cumbersome, because I had to carry an add'l combo to my 2 rods that I normally took bank fishing.  Plus the 1" screen and Atari2600 like pixels wasn't much help.  Best use your money to feed the bait monkey.

I figured as much, but I still had to hope.

Don't let my experience get you down.  I only used it a few times and really never gave it a fair shake.  Just didn't like the inconvenience of carrying more gear.  To each its own.  Good luck!

An arkey style jig will tell you a lot about where you're fishing.

Have you tried just using a topo map?

In Mass. you can go to the Mass wild life & game web site & print topo maps of local lakes & pond that are managed by them. At least this way you can get a general idea of what your fishing and its FREE! ;)
