I'll be fishing Champaign in mid-May. I have never fished it before and know nothing about the lake. But I do have one question. Are there gobies in Champaign?

I assume you mean Lake Champlain? If so, yes there are gobies.  Makes no difference though, they will kill a tube bait anyway. ??

There are no gobies in Champlain yet.  Every picture or specimen has been a slimy sculpin.  That being said they look enough alike that bait wise it'd be the same.  However there aren't many sculpins around compared to Alewifes, Perch and craws up here.  Coming up in May? Jerkbait, small swimbait, ned, crankbait will have you covered.

Thanks guys!

I fish the St Lawrence but I have never fished Champlain and I'm trying to figure what lures to take.

I stand corrected.  I did a little more research and discovered that the round gobie is a threat and not yet found in the lake.  Migrating via the Hudson waterway towards the Champlain canal.  Since I fish St Clair where the gobie is well established more than I do Champlain, I just assumed they were in there.  I use the same baits on both bodies of water.

All good man.  A brown thing scuttling on the bottom is pretty universal for sure.
