Every decent sized fish means a cut off & a new retying of the line. On the 6# line & leader.

I would use 50# braid on the H rated rod and 15-17# fluoro on the MH.

I like this idea.  Especially if you’re gonna use one of the rods for frogging.

Thanks. There's been several mentions of running straight braid. I'm not familiar with fishing straight braid without a leader. I was unaware so many people are doing it and was always under the impression that the fish would be line shy. For this application I'm throwing swimbaits not fishing heavy cover but we do have a lot of submerged trees so maybe I can give pitching heavy cover with straight braid a try as well

I prefer to not use a leader.  I'll add one if I suspect I'm not getting bites.  The answer for me as far as whether fish are line shy is sometimes, but definitely not always or never.  I'll also use a leader if I'm fishing wood.  The leader will be strong enough for the bait, but light enough to break off if my jig gets hung in the wood.  Usually 12# is fine as a fluoro leader.  If I'm fishing weeds, straight braid, no leader.

My leader is only to prevent losing a long amount of line to a deep snag or fish run into heavy cover.  I use tapered fly line leaders. They break at the lure every time.

1) MH 7ft baitcaster rated up to 1oz baits

2) H 7ft baitcaster rated up to 2oz

It really depends where you are fishing it.

 

On the MH baitcaster, I would typically pair that with 12-16# fluorocarbon or 40# braid. Given that this is a MH, I would be inclined to lean towards fluororcabon.

 

For the H baitcaster, I would go with 16-20# fluorocarbon if you aren't throwing in thick weeds or 50-65# braid if you are. I would be inclined to go braid here for frogging and flipping and pitching, especially if this is your only heavy rod.
