Disassembling a rod to ship.

Featured Replies

Hi everyone- I know NOTHING about fishing or fishing poles, but have to ship two poles to a someone and have no idea how to disassemble them to get them ready to ship. I've researched shipping already and am ok there, I just don't know how to take these suckers apart. Do I just cut the fishing line so I can remove the reels and pack those separately?

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

Remove the reels and tie a slip knot then put the loop around the reel seat so the line stays tight.

Are your rods 1 or 2 piece, spinning or casting?

2 piece rods can be taken apart in the middle of the rod.

Rod shipping tube can be made using PVC pipe and end caps.

wrap the rod handle end and tip end with bubble wrap to fit snug into the tube so it doesn’t move back and forth.

2 rods can go into 1 tube by placing the rods so the tip end is next to the handle end.

Thanks, WRB! This might sound silly, but there are lures/hooks currently on the line. Do I just cut those off? Or do they need to be removed a certain way?

Just cut the lures off. As stated above the reels will come off the rod by loosening the lock nut. I would suggest shipping the reels in a separate box. Rods in a tube as instructed above. If you don’t have the original boxes for the reels, wrap those in bubble wrap too, then box them up.
