Haven't fished for 12 years and need help matching reel to rod to line.

Featured Replies

Hello!

Life took me away from bass fishing for the last 12 years, but I never could bring myself to part with my gear. This year, I'm back! I could really use some input on getting my rods and reels matched up, along with what line and lb tests to go with. If you think I should swap some combos up or just flat out different set ups for kayak fishing, let me know!

For some constraints...

-I'd love to get out on the water this week AND it looks like my local BPS is having a sale, so something I could get there. I know Sufix 832 and INvisX           are on sale right now, so I'm leaning towards those 2.

-Kayak fishing, looking to stand up when calm

-I live in Central Tx.

-Straight braid, flouro, braid with leader, I'm down to try it.

Ok here is what I have going on and what I'm thinking I'd throw with them.

Spinning road

Finesse plastics

St. Croix Avid 6'6" Medium Power Fast Action

Abu Garcia Revo S    6.4:1

Jerkbaits, topwater

St. Croix Avid 7' Medium Power Fast Action

Shimano Curado Bantam B 201BS    5:1

Crankbaits, SpinnerBaits?

Dobyns Champion Series 7' Med-Hvy Ex Fast

Shimano Curado 101B    6.2:1

Jigs, Texas Rig, Spinnerbaits?, Lipless Cranks?

Kistler Magnesium Jig n Toad Special 7'

Shimano Citica 201D    6.2:1

Frogs, Slop

I have new 50lb Sufix 832 dark green braid to spool here

St. Croix Legend Tournament telescoping 7'6" Med-Hvy Mod-Fast (I'm worried this will be unwieldy from a kayak)

Team Daiwa - Z  105HL  no idea gear ratio

Pitching into cover, carolina rig?

Thanks!

Silver lining to being color blind I guess...

NY Times changed the "Color Blind" setting's name to "High Contrast Mode" in WORDLE...

I take an LED whitish light flashlight when shopping plastics, I get some funny looks from folks in the isle, as I shine it on the package close to my face.
