Shimano Spinning Reel "S" Nomenclature

Featured Replies

On Shimano spinning reels, do the "S" models share a body with the same sized reel or with the lower sized reel. I am looking into purchasing a Nasci FB 2000S and some places have it listed as a 1000 body with a wider spool while others have it listed as a 2000 body with a shallow spool. Any help is appreciated.

There is no 2000 body, but a 2500 body shared with 3000 reels.

The C2000S will be the small frame with the larger diameter shallow spool

You should be able to identify the frame size by comparing listed weights.

good JDM chart here

Found it! Thanks. Yeah looks like a C2000S = 1000 sized body with a ? spool? Its odd that it weighs slightly more than the standard 1000 size but holds the same line cap. I'm guessing the spool must be larger and shallower to achieve that.

*EDIT - actually it holds less line ... odd.

C2000S is the shallow braid (or UL mono) spool - this is on a Vanquish C2000S

JDM lists capacity as 100 m 4-lb mono

She's beautiful ...

Anyhow, perfect. Should work for what I'm using it for. Thanks!

For Shimano I’ll be looking at “C” compact, bigger spool on smaller body. “S” shallow spool “M” medium spool.

The 2000 size spool is about 43mm while 1000 ~40mm.
The “S” hold less line because a lot shallower spool.

^^^^ What he said.

"S" stands for shallow spool in the spinning reel world.
