Trying to find info on this dawson boat..

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, hope all is well!!!

I recently purchased this boat and it runs extremely awesome from an older gentlemen.... I am trying to find info on it on the web, but cannot for the life of me. It is a 1986 18' Dawson bass boat with a Mercury 115hp.

Any help or info would be great, I just cant find anything on it on the web...

I checked the N.A.D.A boat section and the only Dawson's they had listed were yachts.

I did a google search for 1986 Dawson bass boat and your post on this site is the only reference to that year and model. Maybe your title is incorrect.

Well I have the title in my hands and the Vin matches the title and states 86 - Very weird!

I did a hin search and came up with this....

HIN: DAW17002J586

Model Year: 1986

Certification Year: 1985 (October)

Manufacturer: J & J INDUSTRIES INC

Manufacturer City/State: BRIELLE NJ

It seems the plant was closed but was built by the company above. Weird did I find the holy grail of old boats, or was it a very limited boat custom made for someone?

I remember seeing that for sale recently on the Miami craigslist.

Not sure, but the picture shows an exact duplicate of my 1988 skeeter Starfire 175. I mean it is exact from what I can see of the interior. Might be a special line of boats built by skeeter for another company.

The top cap is the same until you get to the rear of the cap where the hand rails attach.

You indeed do have a 1986 Dawson: I own one just like it ! only mine is blue with a 150XR6

The boat is rated for a 175HP.

The only boat that comes close to being made like this is a Ranger! And I'm not really sure if any other boat out there rides as good as this bass boat, it's a shame that Dawson does'nt make this boat anymore. It would be hard for me to even think about selling it.

I dont think you will ever find any correct info on this boat...I've been trying for the past 5 years with no luck yet.

All I can tell you is to keep it as long as it still floats...you'll not find a better boat any where!
