Hey to all the experts - 

 

Recently started fishing on the Potomac and am trying to get my knowledge up to par. Between learning the tidal patterns, weather patterns, structures, ect, it's been challenging. Everything I've read preaches to fish the grass, but I'm having trouble knowing where that's at!

 

When I'm out in the middle of the river, it looks massive and not sure how to identify where to find the grass and flats. Back in creeks it's fine, but really struggle when the water gets bigger.

Start by learning how to fish the grass in the creeks.  Once you've had success and feel like you've figured out some of the nuance, then hit main river grass.  Sounds oversimplified and obvious I'm sure, but it's basically building blocks.  And remember,  the fish aren't always on main river grass in summer.  The most popular creeks off the Potomac are popular for a reason.

Thanks for that feedback. Are there known spots for main river grass or do you cruise around till you find them? 

There are several that don't have official names, my friends and I use our own made up names for them.  A few that do have real names...searching the web for spots where previous BASS or FLW events were won should yield some names.  But honestly,  within the next few weeks you should be able to scope them while cruising
