If you're going after redfish, snook and baby tarpon the tranx 200 is fine. If larger tarpon, or big snook, might need to go up a size or 2. I have no experience with the 13.

If you like spinning gear, stick with it. Falcon makes a good 7' heavy in most of their lines. I have the Bucoo. Really nice rod.

Mobasser might be right. It was definitely made by either Johnson or Betts, because it was a type of beetle spin. I still have 2 in green and white frog color...over 35 years later. They haven't been made in decades and I'd be shocked if you could find any old stock, especially since bluegills would peck the tails off quite often.

Most red drum tournaments are by length...that allows you to measure over slot fish then release. There are a few exceptions you see on tv sometimes, the ones that copy the bass weigh in format. Those are in the minority. Also, worth mentioning this same thing happened (weights in fish) a few years ago on a pretty serious bass circuit, I think in Texas. Well documented many places, including here, I think. So no, this isn't just a walleye thing. Just one more reason I stopped tournament fishing.

You'll have to google them individually, but a few of them have parks with very large and nice fishing piers. This is all inshore saltwater though, so be aware. But saltwater game fish fight way better than bass anyway. If I were there, I wouldn't even give the bass a 2nd thought.

There are several that don't have official names, my friends and I use our own made up names for them. A few that do have real names...searching the web for spots where previous BASS or FLW events were won should yield some names. But honestly, within the next few weeks you should be able to scope them while cruising

Start by learning how to fish the grass in the creeks. Once you've had success and feel like you've figured out some of the nuance, then hit main river grass. Sounds oversimplified and obvious I'm sure, but it's basically building blocks. And remember, the fish aren't always on main river grass in summer. The most popular creeks off the Potomac are popular for a reason.

You're in a predicament. No reel stops sand. And while some reels can withstand a splash, the only ones that can survive repeated dunkings are the VS and ZB reels you can't afford. So you have 2 options...go inexpensive and thus disposable, or get the closest to sealed as possible. If you decide to do semi disposable I'd look at okuma avenger or stratus series. I got them for just this yet they're still kicking. If you go higher quality, shimano spheros would be my pick, although many Penn reels are supposedly pretty sealed. I just have no personal experience with Penn spinners.

Need some input. Thinking about putting foam deck pads on my crescent venture. I've heard some say they just trap fish slime and get nasty. I don't stand much in the yak, so noise reduction not much of an issue although I do drop pliers a lot. But they look cool, and would protect the hull appearance. Thoughts?

What plastics do you like on the slider weedless crappie heads? I'm a dedicated user of the regular slider heads, but haven't experimented much with the little crappie jigs

Good for surf when tossing lighter lures. I have several lighter than that that I use with confidence. Reds, trout, blues, Spanish mackerel, all good.

Hate to say it, but bass are simply to keep me occupied between trips for fish that actually fight hard
