Minn Kota power drive issues

Featured Replies

I have a minn kota power drive v1 that I’m trying to get one more year out of. I recently replaced the foot pedal and control board with a v2 control board and pedal as my old pedal had failed and is no longer available. Now my motor will run for a few mins then stop. I still have steering. If I pull it out of the water, wait a few mins then deploy it again it will work on momentary for a few button pushes then stops. I can run it on continuous if I immediately switch it on and it will run for hours until I switch it off. Then it won’t run again. I can here the relay clicking when I depress the propel button, but the propeller won’t spin. I have power going to the motor and can jump the ground lead from the motor to the battery ground lead, the motor will run. I have opened up the lower unit and there are no signs of water intrusion and my brushes look good along with the bearings. I cannot afford a new motor this year and it makes it tough to fish without it. I’m curious if I have a defective control board. Any minn kota gurus here?

The Power Drive pedals were notorious for failing.  The contact points wear out over time.  My Father still has one on his 2001 Crestliner Fish Hawk, and I think he's replaced the pedal 5 times since owning it.  I keep telling him to just scrap the whole thing and upgrade to a Terrova.  If he can't find a new pedal after this one wears out, I think he may just do that.

I have a new pedal and also replaced the control board to allow the new pedal to work. I think I have a bad pedal or control board
