I cruised through an area of thick standing timber recently (easier in a kayak of course) and noticed that most of the life was suspended around the timber. Most, actually, within a few feet of the surface and I saw a few blowups in the area. Contrasted with the rest of the lake where most life I was seeing was around 8-12ft with the thermocline in some areas at 15ft and down to 20ft. Really interesting to see what the fish do.
