i'm sore.  i did something dumb.  i fished a spot in the CA Delta.  no boat ramp, but there are stairs.  going down was easy, coming back up at end of day: not so much.  i was tired, hot.  i flipped my kayak on its side in the water.  easy enough.  tried to insert scupper cart, and that effort pushed the boat away from me.  i tried to wrestle it back.  TWINGE!  i felt it immediately.  i pulled a muscle.

i had friends with me, and i should have asked for help.  now i am doing stretches periodically throughout the day.  i am healing up fast.  i'll be fine in a few days, but lessoned learned.  lift smarter and ask for help.  i am getting older now.

i am thinking of trying yoga when i am all healed up. build up my core and flexibility.

kayaks are definitely harder to handle than people think but I am glad you are on the mend.  Flexibility is something I need to work on as well.

Just an FYI though, unless you have a Hobie. don't use a scupper cart or you will break the scuppers at some point.

true.  i have a hobie with the reinforced scupper holes.  i still dont "4x4" my kayak that often. :)

I tried to find yoga that was just stretching, no go, everything is a workout.

Goat yoga should include a packet of curry and some rice...

“Joe Louis was 138 years old when they fought…138!”

There's a few local places I'd like to fish with a Kayak, but I've decided I'm too old for one.

Yoga is supposed to be a workout so you strengthen your back.

Darth has the right idea. Strengthening your core and everything else will help prevent injuries.

I've suffered from lower back issues and yoga has been the best thing for it. I recommend the DVD by Peggy Cappy called something like "Back Care Basics: Yoga for the Rest Of Us". It really helped me tremendously.

It's not as much of a workout I suppose as other yoga. You don't stand at all, for instance.

Darth, not sure about your injury, but hiking (like you've been doing) has helped with a recent back strain I had, even went to the ER for it. Three weeks later I did my toughest hike yet with 20 pounds in my pack and it was a breeze.

As for the kayak I wonder when that will happen to me, mainly when I'm putting it on the roof. It's another reason I started hiking and doing some workouts.....not getting hurt doing the things I enjoy :) And so I can pedal farther!
