MLF Challenge Cup

Featured Replies

MLF just aired the Challenge Cup elimination round 1 on the Outdoor Channel on Lake Wateree in Rock Hill, SC and I must say it was the worst tournament I’ve seen in all the years of watching them.  Ten pounds won the round and it only took three pounds to make the cut.  Granted, it actually took place in September last year, which is not known as a great time of year for fishing, but I’m sure there are many other lakes they could have chosen that would have yielded better results.

Time snd time again they were catching non-scoreable bass.  Ott Defoe jokingly said at one point that two pounds might make the cut and he wasn’t too far off.  When guys like Mark Rose can fish for 7 1/2 hours without catching a scoreable bass, there’s something wrong.

Anyhow, it was a discouraging day for the anglers and not very entertaining to watch.

I think it shows the average fisherman how hard it can be to catch fish on certain lakes at certain times of the year and actually make them feel better when they aren't successful on some days. If a pro can't get it done, then there is almost a certainty the average guy couldn't. Can't catch what isn't there. Sure, fishing on Fork in March is awesome for seeing big fish caught, but that isn't the "reality" of fishing as a whole. Hopefully you don't watch all these hunting shows and think everybody who deer hunts just sits in a stand and waits on a 180" deer to walk by. I've never seen a 180" deer on my property so to think I am a failure at hunting because I don't kill one is a sense of false information. Can't kill what isn't there. Sometimes showing real life events is a better product in my mind.

I always check the bottom scores anytime I look at tournament results.   Makes me feel better about myself ?.
