  1. I pitch, rather than flip. I can tell you that I personally find it much more difficult to practice pitching in the yard rather than on my boat because I'm so used to being at that specific height above the water as I've done it so much. Put me on flat ground and I lose some skill. Perhaps your issue is the opposite and you just need practice from the height of your boat.
  2. Absolutely and at any depth. I very frequently catch big catfish by accident when using a bladed jig. Gear ratio selection is a personal preference is based on your ability to move it as quickly or slowly as you want. That is mostly dictated by the bladed jig itself. For example, it has been my experience that the Original Chatterbaits have to be reeled faster to get them to vibrate. On the opposite end of that spectrum is the Fogy from Siebert Outdoors. If I give it a sharp snap to get it started I can then slow down to the point of barely moving and still get hard, slow thumps out of it. I've been told by good fishing friends that the bladed jig bladed jig is of the same ilk as the Fogy when it comes to slow rolling. I'm sure there are many quality bladed jigs out there that can be slow-rolled easily.
  3. I have had exactly the same experience as @AnonymousSoreMouther as I ship/receive both for work and personally. I'll add one more thing; For FedEx and UPS I typically must have work items shipped to home. I work for a major university and our main building hours are clearly posted and clearly not nights or weekend, but they don't care. I had a $4000 'signature required' delivery left on our doorstep on a weekend by FedEx. Fortunately I had email notification so I drove in and grabbed it before it was stolen by college kids. UPS is worse. We documented with our surveillance cameras a UPS driver stopping his truck in front of our building, sticking his cell phone out the door of his truck to take a pic of the front of our building, and then submitting an "attempted delivery / door locked no answer". He did it THREE TIMES in three days. USPS delivers reliably to our building during our open hours and never leaves packages outside or lies about delivery attempts. I strongly suspect, however, that all of this varies as to WHO is working for which entity in your area.
  4. You want to make sure you're getting the most out of every rod that you put on your kayak. I understand. My preference for spinnerbaits and bladed jigs is a rod with a moderate/fast tip and a very parabolic rod. It's a wavy tip with a strong backbone that I'm looking for. The Duckett Jacob Wheeler rods fit that bill perfectly. Turns out they are also excellent for slowly running deep cranks on the bottom. And I've also fished Carolina rigs with them.
  5. Definitely blessed with good water when I fish my closest lake for bass and a bycatch is a 1lb 10oz crappie.
  6. Look at the size of him. He should have moved out by now. Failure to launch.
  7. During a season I will visit at least six different lakes, possibly more. Each lake is different. The only generalizations I can make are: -A bottom contact t-rigged plastic -A finesse set up -A mid-range moving bait -A topwater -Once the water temps are above 80, a deep mover -Football jig Which of each thing depends on the lake and weather in the past few days. All will not be used unless I'm having a horrible day. My singular goal is to get a pattern identified where I can have no more than two rods on deck. My perfect day of fishing is a single rod on deck. I know it's weird, but if no one else on the lake is catching fish and I get them dialed in with ONE rod and boat five bass, that's an epic trip for me. That's why I love fall. 30-40 bass with a single rod and lure. In November, I'll only have 3 or 4 rods in my boat.
  8. Love my Huk shirts, however, you have to pick the really thin ones for height of summer. The really thin shirts are significantly cooler than bare skin in the sun.
  9. I subscribe through Roku to MyOutdoorTV for $99 a year. So much interesting stuff on there. I'm going to confess that I watch more reruns of MLF from ten years ago than anything else.
  10. I would suggest you definitely skip the entry level Chatterbaits. If you want to spend money on cool stuff there are a lot of well-known, big name bladed jigs out there to try. You can spend a lot on them also. I should know. I did that for several years. Now the only bladed jig I fish is the Fogy from @Siebert Outdoors . Incredibly reliable thumpers and you can build it like you want it. I highly recommend you get a few with the Turbo blade. It's a tough condition blade that has saved me from a skunk a few times. It's the customization that has me hooked. Siebert Outdoors LLCFogyThe Fogy is a classic blade bait known for its powerful thump and proven fish-catching ability. Designed with a football jig head , the Fogy produces more vibration than many other blade baits, while
  11. Happy Sunday to all. This chunky shad queen was a lesson in patience. Our forecast called for over an inch of rain to fall in the course of about 90 minutes this morning. I was geared up to head to the lake the second it quit raining. Unfortunately, it didn't rain a drop. Instead I was left with overcast skies, a bottomed-out barometer, and a north wind. It was slow going to start with just four or five smallish bass. I was about to head home when I threw into some shallow brush and my t-rigged worm slipped over a small branch. I jiggled it a little bit to free it which caused a 3 1/2 to bite. I let that one go and decided to throw into the thickest stuff I could find. I skipped that Trick Worm into a pile of "I'm not getting my lure back" under a fallen tree and this 4lb 9oz bit it like she hated it. That was the one I was looking for. That was my last cast and I went back home to spend the rest of the day with my perfect wife. Another blessed weekend.
  12. A few years ago a young man made a post on here. He was fishing my home lake from the bank and was concerned because of all the obvious carp activity. He decided to go with the flow and started throwing at the surface activity, knowing it was carp spawning. He posted a pic with his new LM PB of over 6lbs. Our brains tell us that the bass are going to hate all that drama the carp are creating, but it turns out they are used to it. It's a bit like marriage.
  13. That's a great day!
  14. I like braid. I'm not a fan of nylon mono due to a lack of sensitivity. I spent an entire season trying to force myself to like flouro and just couldn't get there solely because Yo Zuri hybrid has a perfect balance of all the qualities I want in a line. Flouro does some things better than hybrid, I don't argue that at all. However, the flexibility of the hybrid makes it worth it and in my opinion (this is only my opinion and is based on my individual experience with zero scientific basis) the Yo Zuri hybrid holds a knot stronger and for longer than fluoro. A LOT longer and stronger. Eliminating nylon mono and fluoro from my boat (except for fluoro leaders) blatantly reduced the number of knot failures (your experience may vary). I will add something that I cannot explain, but I use LEADER SPECIFIC fluoro for braid-to-fluoro. The leader specific fluoro knots are strong. I have tried to go cheap and use fluoro mainline, and I had constant breakage using it as a leader. ALSO, I have tried to use my beloved Yo Zuri hybrid 12lb as a leader and it is the WORST leader I have ever used. Constant breakage, poor energy transmittal, and unpredictable rate of drop. I cannot explain any of this and it might all be a hallucination in my head, but that is my experience. But believing is 99% of success, right?
  15. Thirteen days ago I filled up at $3.91 a gallon, which is terrible. Two jumps later and today the best price I could find was $4.79. I'm actually going to hold off buying a sticker for my favorite lake because it's 131 miles round trip.
  16. Thanks for coming back!
  17. Don't sweat it for a single second. 100% chance that the jackwagons calling you names aren't spending all of their free time doing charity work. I have had enough contact with you on here to know that you are extremely respectful and courteous both with other people and with nature. I have experienced so much hate on other forums and in social media groups that I severely restrict what and how much I share. I've learned that these days people deal with their own inadequacies by stealing peace and happiness from others. We have an amazing, inimitable community here thanks to @Glenn . This is where I find real people and real community and I have zero questions about your intentions or ethics. To answer your question; I always pick up or pull out abandoned fishing line. I will sometimes pick up other's trash if the mood strikes me, but I don't pretend to be Mother Teresa because I picked up someone else's littered energy drink can.
  18. ^^^X2^^^ Spinnerbaits are pretty versatile and can certainly be good in open water under the right circumstances. Windblown points is one of those circumstances. However, the spinnerbait really shines when you are smacking it off of stuff.
  19. FINALLY got out for some fishing. We've had a rough start to 2026 so it was a blessing to get back in the boat. I caught 18 LM but none over 2.5lbs and none worthy of pics. The pic I've attached is just to show the water color. I was fishing some private water that is usually very clear with 8+ feet of visibility. Yesterday we had 3.5 inches of rain and high winds. The water went up 2 feet in less than 24 hours. Stained is an understatment. I assumed, incorrectly, that loud and proud was the way to fish so I started throwing all dark colored moving baits. Vibrating jig, topwater, spinnerbait with Colorado blades. I caught nothing. I finally decided I had nothing to lose by slowing down so I went with something "flappy" in Junebug. I immediately caught some dinks on a pegged Rage Craw. I found almost all of my fish at pinch points with current going through them and it turned out that any plastic in Junebug was the deal. Very fun to keep switching out plastics and getting bites just because of the color. It was just the relaxing day that I needed. Truly a blessing.
  20. Those are insane. Nice work.
  21. I had to call my therapist and pay after hours rates. I'm not emotionally prepared for this kind of thing.
  22. I started fishing only Gamakatsu. After many years of fishing Gama, Owner, and VMC my hook drawer is overflowing with the VMC bulk packs and some Owners I got on sale. I find zero difference in hookup ratio although my lizard brain seems to feel like the Gamakatsus may stay sharp a bit longer. I disagree with you but I'm glad you have found hooks you have true confidence in. I promise not to post a thread about our disagreement. 😉 Hey brother, my wife and I have nearly divorced over a paint color and whether it had more light gray in it or more light green in it. Sometimes you just have to put the gloves on and go a few rounds.
  23. Congratulations and welcome! That's a solid first photo!
