Dobyns Xtasy 754C vs. Daiwa Steez AGS Bottom Contact (Gen 1)

Featured Replies

Does anyone have a legit comparison of a Dobyns Xtasy 754C vs. a Gen1 Daiwa Steez AGS Bottom Contact Rod and how can/would you compare? Thank you!

I didn't have the 754 but had the Xtasy 755 and I have the Bottom Contact currently.

In my personal opinion these are two different rods. While I thought that the 755 was way underpowered and a MH at best, the Steez is a powerhouse that can punch over it's advertised weight.

The 755c felt comfortable with a 3/8oz jig with trailer. So I can imagine that the 754 is even a bit softer. The Steez was able to fish everything from a 3/8oz to a 1oz jig.

They are both well balanced. The Robyn's is slightly better. The fit and finish is good on the Robyn's, but clearly better on the Steez.

Sensitivity is a clear win for the Steez in my hands.

Warranty of the Robyn's is better since it has a no questions asked policy.

I would go for the Steez every time, u less i need a lighter powered rod and I can get the Robyn's for dirt cheap.

I got my Robyn's during the 40% off sale. I still sold it again.

I have the Xtasy 755 and the Gen 2 Steez Power Pitch.  The Steez is the best jig rod I've ever tried, you can feel everything, lovely action with stupid power.  Absolutely love it, and bring it out everytime.  The 755 is my big worm rod, T-rig and Shakey, but also gets almost anything else tied on if I only bring a few rods, super versatile, from power neds to swim jigs.  In the beginning, I didn't feel like I was reading the bottom well, but now with more time put in, I find it to be a different version of very sensitive and I really enjoy it.  It's so light weight and comfortable, definitely look into upping your power from 4 - 5.

It's special.  To me it feels best with a "heavier" reel.  A 6.3oz reel was good, but it really came alive for me with something over 7oz and solid aluminum.

I am running a Steez A 8.1:1 on it right now and I actually think it is fairly well balanced. What are you using?

Blasphemy I know, but an 8:1 Bantam has been my jam.  Between the solid chunk of metal and that rod, I can really recreate the bottom in my mind.

I have a JDM 22 Zillion HD on another rod and it kills, so now the reel monkey wants me to test the HD on the Steez.  Not today monkey, not today.

I like the Steez on it, since I have the Steez SV spool in it and can skip like a champ with the combo as well, which helps when I want to get a jig into a tide spot.

Skipping with anything but a SV spool has been a pain in the butt for me, so not sure if I can switch to another reel here. :)

Can totally understand.  Skipping is so rarely needed on my water, it's not even a consideration.  The only worthwhile cover to skip are 3 docks.  One of them is mine so I just pepper my neighbors and then go to their's and hit mine.  Maybe my beer drinking dock practice with a non ideal reel will make me the best, but a few years in now, I doubt it.
