Looking for a travel rod

Featured Replies

Hello, I am looking for a travel spinning rod. Between 7'6 and 8' that can throw lures from 1/2 to 2 ounces. Haven't been able to find one. Would be mostly used for fishing stripped bass from the shore.

I don't see anything over 7'.

I did a search on my Tidemaster, which I thought was long discontinued. It tuned up at this site in Canada. If it's really still available it might fit the bill, not cheap, if you can find it in the USA.

I looked around just now and I think you might need to look at travel surf rods. 7’6” - 8’  1/2-2oz might be a deal breaker.  You might have better luck going with 9’ and settling for a 2 piece.

Tica Dolphin 2 piece, 8’, 1/2-2oz. I went through this a few years ago and with travel rods and  the choices are limited. I have a Lamiglas 8 or 9’ 2 piece steelhead rod that I think is 1/2-2oz. Best you can do is put on a pot of coffee and your internet sleuth hat, and get comfortable.

my travel rod is a humble Okuma.  a UL version.

I would get the rod below. another Okuma.  3-piece spinning.  8'6" and can throw a 1.5oz.  you can push the envelope I bet with a lob-cast :).    I find travel rods get beaten up a bit, but my Okuma came with a very good travel tube.  I've backpacked 10 days with that thing.

I think this is a Salmon rod:

The Daiwa Ardito 7'6 MH can throw 2oz just fine. I've done it with mine. Heck, I've thrown 4oz with bait to no ill effect.
