Boat Carpet Alternative

Featured Replies

I have an older aluminum Bass Tracker and the carpet is getting beat. I am thinking seriously of pulling up the carpet, prepping the floor, and then coating it with rubberized paint used for concrete decks.

I figure it will be easy to apply, durable and no-skid. I don't really care what it looks like, I'll use something light like tan to hide the dirt and keep it a bit cool.

Anyone try this? Thoughts or suggestions?

Go hit some local flooring places and ask if they have any indoor outdoor rems for a small boat.

You could probably get one for 29 bucks for like a 4x8

That is what I would do IMO.

Ask if they got any felt//synthetic pad too and put that under. It will feel sweet

The rubberized flooring material would probably work.  I would be concerned about how much it weighs though.  That stuff can't possibly be light.  The only way I could see you getting away with it is to put on a really light coat.  The drawback is that it will probably scratch up fairly easily with such a thin layer of it on the boat.

Personally, I would just replace the carpet.  It's fairly easy to do.

i think the paint would get too hot, bass pro has vinyl type flooring you could check out.

The problem with any type of coating that absolutely seals the wood, such as those used in truck beds, is that they will get punctured or damaged, allowing moisture to get into the wood.

It will be hard for the wood to dry out, as it can with carpet.  I know some type of adhesive is used to bond the carpet to the deck, but I doubt it is absolutely watertight.

A good practice, if you have any boat in a secure, dry place is to open all the hatches when you get home.  Adequate ventilation is the enemy of rot, mold, and mildew.

Does it have wood in it?  My jon is all aluminum underneath.  It also comes standard with the lowest floor being all vinyl.  I love it... soft and cool both... it also dosnt weigh very much.
