Ideal time for Lake George/Lake Kerr/St. John’s River trip?

Featured Replies

I have the luxury of planning a trip almost any time. What would be the ideal time to fish Lake George around the Salt Springs area?

Prespawn Nov through Feb but Jan/Feb increase your chances of cold fronts.

I fished a two day event from shell Harbor on January 22 & 23 of this year and we fished in Salt Springs, my partner and I both had 20 lb bags both days with big fish being 10.2 and a 9.1 with several others in the 5lb class. How ever as mentioned above the weather can be sketchy. I would highly suggest the 2nd or 3rd week in  February on the St Johns. B.A.S.S. Masters are here during that time frame every year and most of them are in Lake George and Rodman Res. bed fishing for giants.

Fishing is pretty good here late fall- early spring. Like ski said it gets busy here too, a lot of tournaments and people that spend the winter here too.
Don’t know where you’ll be staying , but the Ocklawaha is good place too, not to far from salt springs. The mouth is by marker 52, or ask where the condos are at, it’s across from them.

I’m probably going to camp at Salt Springs if there’s a spot available.
