EDIT: Picked a rod: The Saga Concludes?

Featured Replies

To quote Bernie Sanders: “Once again I am asking for your support…” because my second consecutive order for a 7’ Medium action spinning rod has fallen through.

Since I haven’t looked at sales in nearly a week, if you see a decent rod at a discounted price of $70 or under (or $90 on TackleWarehouse, or $80 on Sportsman’s Guide).

Walk into a DSG and feel some for yourself. The one local to me has Dobyns, Fenwick, 13, St. Croix, ARK, etc, in your price range. Keep your receipt. If you break it they'll take it back no questions asked even if it has doody on it.

It's a shame. The closest DSG to me (1.5 hrs) got rid of their fishing section a year or two ago.

About a year after they nixed all guns and most ammo.

Haven't been in since.

They don’t call em Dicks for nothing

You said 90 on TW, the new Tatula XTs are 99, is that extra $10 too much?

The ML XT I had shipped to me from Sportsman’s Guide was $67–so, right or wrong, I hate to pay much more than that…but most importantly I just wasn’t crazy about how it felt compared to my Shimano Convergence ML.

The tip seemed freakishly thin—and I do fish from the bank sometimes.

Trigger finger is beginning to hover over a 13Fishing Blackout.

…And the trigger is pulled. I’ve ordered a 13Fishing Blackout and some UV Speed Craws (which I am excited to try, for the first time—the forum and rave reviews on vendor sites helped convince me they are worth it).

SG had the Blackout on sale for $54 (member pricing). Got to use the $20 coupon from the trouble last time—so in the end it (hopefully) all worked out.

The rod has arrived! Feels great in the hand, and I like the taper of the blank.

Only thing I’ll have to get used to is the skeleton grip. Seems if I put all but my pinky finger above the reel, my thumb is likely to slip during a hook set motion. But if I have 2 fingers on each side of the reel, that problem goes away, and my middle and ring fingers make more direct contact with the blank itself.

Can’t wait to fish it!

Were his from back when they were under the different brand name? The numeric perfume style name, before 13Fishing’s name got put on all the models, including the Blackout?

Same thing happened in the yuppie area north of Indianapolis. Stopped by while up there to see what they had and couldn't find the hunting/fishing area. I grabbed a worker and asked where it was and was told "We don't have one. We don't carry any of that stuff here".

I assumed it was because it's within a mile of the Cabelas, but maybe not.

No sir, all were purchased in the last 1-2 years. His latest one was bought over Christmas and he just broke it in 3 pieces about a month ago.

[stuff deleted]

Yuppies and other types of white collar professionals generally don't hunt or fish and consider such activities to be déclassé. At least here in Silicon Valley.  Which is fine because it means more range and lake time for me. ?

Register your warranty and don't sweat it. I've had 8 Omen Black 2s for the past 5 years and my buddy has 3 OB3s for the past 2. We fish super heavy cover and haven't broken a thing ever while fishing with them.
