I'm in a bummed out state today. My very first 'crush' passed away yesterday at the age of 89.

Travel far, Nichelle.

I was fortunate enough to watch ST:TOS when first broadcast in the 60s. Growing up during the Space Race, my brother and I loved that show. Just think. 1960s. Civil Rights. Cold War. Women’s Lib. And here’s a ship in the future with a black bridge officer (also female) as well as a Russian, and an Asian. It was a show definitely ahead of its time.

You hear the phrase “hailing frequencies, Captain” and Nichelle Nichols instantly pops into focus. Godspeed, Lt. Uhuru.
