quality line counter?

Featured Replies

I don't love just eyeballing how much backing to put on, especially as I'm often changing line diameters, so I bought a line counter. Rapala's is... well, it's plastic junk. Often doesn't work, have had to tear it down completely once, etc. I suppose I should have listened to the reviews, but the other options appeared to be the same.

I don't need perfection, but I would like it to last a while and be able to reasonably count anything from 10lb braid to 25lb flouro.

Any favorites?

Sometimes simple is better - this thing has worked well for 4 seasons so far.

I have the same one, and it works most of the time. But it does require some line tension, and it doesn't work well for light braids under 20lbs.

I actually tested it with 10# Sufix 832 - for a 70yd measurement by the counter...hand measurement was 68.5yds - close enough for my purposes.

It does require tension on the line before hitting the counter, and fiddling with the tension adjustment knob on the bottom-right in the pic.

Maybe you could elaborate on how to do it later, as I've tried many different ways (feed the line from certain angle; tweaking with the tension knob) to get it work with 10# Seaguar Smackdown, but to no avail.

This is the one I have.  I have used it countless times with no issues.

I wrap the line twice around the wheel and under both bars while keeping tension on the line the entire time.

Thanks, I wouldn't have otherwise given that brand a shot.
